Why did Council decide to apply for a rate variation?

Wagga Wagga City Councillors voted to apply for the variation after reviewing the Long Term Financial Plan for the City and costs to maintain and enhance the City and surrounding area. It was viewed as critical to increase ongoing maintenance levels for areas such as roads and parks.

By looking at projected costs for delivering our current works and services levels and the projected income base, Council was able to clearly see the current services and works program could not be maintained without going into deficit or increasing funding levels.

As part of the planning process, Council reviewed service levels and standards of infrastructure key to the City - roads, parks and sporting facilities it was determined the current service level could not be allowed to drop any further and increased funding was required for improvements.
