Country & Western: landscape re-imagined brings into focus the contrasting insights and cultural imperatives, both Indigenous (Country) and non-Indigenous (Western), that have given shape and substance to our evolving attitudes and perceptions of the national landscape over the past twenty-five years. In traversing the Australian landscape through a disparate body of work by a significant group of thirty-nine artists working in various media, the exhibition reaffirms the impact landscape exerts on the national psyche.
Land Dialogues brings together a selection of emerging and established Australian photographic artists all engaged with the exploration and reinterpretation of land. These artists share the common theme of re-evaluating how the Australian community understands, represents and values the spaces that we create, impact and occupy.
Gregory Carosi's gestural brushstrokes evoke Riverina landscapes, while lyrical expanses of exposed birch grain draw attention to the paintings as objects, taking viewers beyond the literal and offering increasingly complex representations of how and what we see. Informed by the artist's relocation from Sydney to Wagga, From there to here engages audiences in the process of how we come to see a new place.
