WAGGA WAGGA TIDY TOWNS

Wagga Wagga has a long standing association with the Keep Australia Beautiful Awards being involved from the inception of the program. Wagga Wagga City Council first submitted an entry in the Keep Australia Beautiful Awards In 1982, and was successful in achieving third place.

The following year, Council formed the Wagga Wagga Tidy Towns committee that consisted of Council representatives, community members and representatives of commerce, industry, education and community service organisations

The first meeting of the Committee was held on 25 July 1984; whereby Mr Arthur Trewin was elected chairman.  

Objectives the Committee's stated in the constitution include:   

• To encourage the citizens of the city of Wagga Wagga as individuals and as members of community groups, service organisations, schools and junior clubs to generate schemes for keeping Wagga Wagga beautiful by environmental care, tidiness and beautification programs.

 The original motto "Keeping Wagga Wagga Beautiful" has in recent years changed to "Enhancing our City and the Environment"
