Ruby's StoryWednesday 26 August 2009
8:00 PM – 9:30 PM
The Australian Art Orchestra with Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter. The Australian Art Orchestra with Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter.Ruby's Story is a unique collaboration between Ngarrindjeri woman, Ruby Hunter, her partner in music and life, Gunditjmara man Archie Roach, and acclaimed musician, Paul Grabowsky. Together and separately Ruby Hunter and Archie Roach have forged careers that cross musical and cultural boundaries. In this powerful collaboration, Ruby and Archie join forces with members of the Australian Art Orchestra to perform songs they have written about their experiences as members of the Stolen Generations. The songs recount Ruby's birth by the side of a billabong near the banks of the Murray River in South Australia and chart her search for identity, the discovery of hope through love, and Ruby and Archie's return to the river to build a new life and a new home, to mend the wounds of the past. Paul Grabowsky's arrangements, which have been hailed as his best work yet, take their leads from the country music and gospel traditions that have inspired them and from his own jazz and classical influences.
