Riverside Wagga Wagga is a partnership between Wagga Wagga City Council and the NSW Land & Property Management Authority. Riverside Wagga Wagga will instigate development of passive and active recreational spaces, social and cultural facilities, as well as commercial outlets along one of the City's most attractive natural resources - the Murrumbidgee River.

Kiah Infranet have been appointed to undertake the development of a master plan for the area with the draft strategic master plan anticipated to go on public exhibition towards the end of 2009. Council and NSW LPMA will continue to undertake consultation throughout the project to ensure the Riverside Wagga Wagga strategic master plan meets the needs of the community today and into the future.

Riverside Wagga Wagga provides an exciting opportunity for members of the community to contribute to the development and growth of the City for the benefit of residents and visitors.

Riverside Wagga Wagga covers an area of approximately 100 ha in the heart of the city and is predominantly open space land, the strategic master plan will see improved recreational opportunities through better access, better facilities i.e. barbeques, paths, cycleways and the enhancement of the natural environment.

Through community consultation to the objectives for Riverside Wagga Wagga are

  • To develop the area as a focal point and destination for residents and visitors inclusive of community gathering points and creation of a sense of place.
  • To be representative of world class, iconic design that incorporates ecologically sustainable design throughout.
  • To enhance the existing passive recreation facilities to encourage healthy communities and liveability.
  • To incorporate appropriate commercial and residential uses.
  • To improve and create linkages to the City's CBD and existing cultural/civic precinct and integration with existing and future plans.
  • To preserve and interpret the area's rich cultural heritage.
  • To create a safe place for residents and visitors to interact.
  • Economic and Ecological Sustainability.

Some built-form opportunities being investigated as part of the strategic master plan include;

  • Conference/Theatrette and workshop spaces
  • Visitor Information Centre
  • Re-location of Museum
  • Potential synergies/partner cultural services with Charles Sturt University
  • Commercial services ie: Café/ restaurant, offices, shops
  • Entertainment, sport and recreational facilities
  • Residential precinct
  • Educational facility encompassing environment, arts etc
  • Link to civic and other cultural infrastructure located in existing Civic precinct and neighbouring locations such as the Riverina Playhouse and Association of Riverina Cultural Clubs facility
  • Location and/or relocation of existing sporting and community clubs located in the precinct or having the potential to be relocated to the precinct
