Waste & Recycling FAQ

How can I dispose of excess rubbish?

All residents within a kerbside collection area are entitled to one free kerbside bulky waste pick up per year. A notification of the next pick up in your street should be delivered to your mailbox well in advance of the pick up. Otherwise, waste can be taken to Gregadoo Waste Management Centre and disposed of for a fee.

How can I get rid of chemicals/paints/unwanted medicines?

Unfortunately, no such wastes are permitted to be disposed of through the kerbside collection bins, or at any of the waste management facilities. A specialist hazardous chemicals collection contractor is organised through REROC to undertake a collection in the Eastern Riverina on a yearly basis. The collection is referred to as the Household Hazardous Chemical Collection, and is widely advertised within a few weeks of the event. Paint tins may only be disposed of through the kerbside collection or at the waste management facilities only if they contain dried paint. Also, some pharmacies may have a collection point for unwanted medicines.

I need to get rid of old tyres. Where do I take them?

Though small quantities of tyres are accepted at Gregadoo Waste Management Centre, they cannot be disposed to landfill. Tyres are collected and reused on site where possible, or arranged to be taken away by a recycling contractor. Most tyre fitting businesses will dispose of tyres through such a contractor.

What are the charges at the waste management facilities?

Charges can be found on the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre page.

What are the operating times of the tip?

Gregadoo Waste Management Centre is open 360 days per year, seven days a week, 7.30am to 4.30pm. GWMC is not open on Christmas and Easter public holidays. Customers are encouraged to arrive at GWMC well before the closing time, as the gate is locked at 4.30pm.

What can I do with old computer equipment?

If you are in the process of upgrading your computer don't just throw your old machine away! Older style computers can be recycled too. Kurrajong Recyclers recycle or reuse older computers and computer equipment. Please check out their website at http://www.kurrajongwaratah.org.au/ or contact them on (02) 6925 5004.

What do I do with old batteries?

Car batteries can be taken to the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre. There is a collection point for lead acid batteries within the metal recycling area, just inside of the weighbridge. These are collected by the Triple R contractor and on-sold to a recycler. Most battery businesses will take back your old car batteries.

What happens to the garden waste collected?

Collected green waste is mulched and used for cover material within the cell. Private commercial composting operations are also being encouraged to ensure that maximum material utilisation occurs.

What materials are accepted at Gregadoo Waste Management Centre for FREE?

Materials accepted for free at GWMC are clean fill only.

All separated recyclables such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and aluminium must be taken to the purpose built transfer station for a fee.

Where can I dispose of large garden waste materials?

Large garden waste materials may be collected by a local composting or landscaping business through private arrangements, or taken to Gregadoo Waste Management Centre for a fee.

Where is the nearest local tip?

The only mixed waste disposal facility located in the Wagga Wagga local government area is at Gregadoo Waste Management Centre (GWMC). GWMC is located at 132 Ashfords Road, about a 15 minute drive south-east of the Wagga Wagga CBD. For more information, please contact (02) 6926 4003. There are a number of small village landfills and transfer stations within the Wagga Wagga local government area, though these are for use by the local communities only.

Why wasn't my bin collected?

Refer to Rejected Bins.
