Planning & Development

Planning and Development

Development in Wagga Wagga requires Council consent. This is gained through lodging an application for development under the provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (as amended) and assessed in accordance with Council's applicable Development Control Plans and Local Environmental Plans.

Preparing an application can be a complex process, especially if you are lodging one for the first time. The information on this website is designed to help you understand the steps to take when lodging an application.

The Need for Council Approval

Wagga Wagga City Council regulates building and development - commercial, industrial and residential - on behalf of the community. Each Development Application (DA) is assessed on its merits using the City's Development Control Plans and Local Environmental Plans together with State Environmental Planning Policies.

Development Control Plans contain various policies and guidelines affecting development proposals within the City. They provide detailed guidelines for developers as well as others involved and interested in the development of our City, complementing the broader "enabling" provisions contained in the Local Environmental Plans.
