Resource Recovery and Reuse
Resource Recovery Strategy 2009 - 2019
Wagga Wagga City Council's Resource Recovery Strategy 2009 - 2019 builds on Council's Corporate Planning and Reporting Framework, and aligns with the Community Strategic Plan Our City Our Tomorrow 2008/2018.
Council's "Wagga Wagga Waste Management Strategy 1998" was identified as in need of a comprehensive review to reflect the significant changes in waste management philosophy, technologies and community expectations experienced over the last 10 years.
With the implementation of the new kerbside collection contract and the construction of the Gregadoo Transfer Station, Council's major solid waste activities meet with the best practice guidelines. However as the individual solid waste management processes are improved they were at risk of becoming fragmented and less than optimal without an up to date integrated Solid Waste Management Strategy.
In line with Councils Strategic Plan 2008/18, the strategy evolved from the original Waste Management Strategy to a Resource Recovery Strategy that addresses the broader issues of environmental sustainability through resource recovery rather than focusing on waste disposal.
What is in the Resource Recovery Strategy?
- The strategy sets the broad strategic waste management directions for Council
- The strategy addresses the broader issues of environmental sustainability through resource recovery rather than just waste disposal
- The strategy is intended to position Council so it can adapt to changing circumstances in the management of the community's waste
