The three bin system

120 Litre Domestic Garbage Bin

Your general waste bin takes:

  • household food waste
  • disposable nappies
  • non recyclable waste
  • plastic bags

It might be rejected or not collected if:

  • bin material was jammed
  • bin was not facing the kerb
  • bin was under an overhanging tree
  • bin contained liquids or hazardous waste
  • bin was overfull and/or has been filled in such a way that spillage would occur during normal collection operations
  • bin was too heavy to lift (over 60kg)
  • over 25% recyclable material in the garbage service

Once your 120L general waste bin is collected it makes its way to Gregadoo Waste Management Facility where the truck offloads this waste in to landfill. Place Recyclables and Green Waste in the other bins to ensure that these items do not go into landfill.

240 Litre Mixed Recycling Bin

Your mixed recycling bin takes:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminium cans
  • Steel cans (including empty aerosol cans)
  • Cardboard milk and juice cartons
  • Clean paper and cardboard

It might be rejected or not collected if:

  • bin was under an overhanging tree
  • bin contained unconstrained polystyrene beads

From your kerb, the recyclable material is sent off to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) operated by Kurrajong Waratah Recyclers on Chaston St. Here your recyclables are sorted using a state of the art system.  Once sorted the material is bundled up and distributed all around the country and overseas where these materials will be turned into new products.
